Remote Access
This page is dedicated to information regarding remote access of USD 204 network files and applications. Remote Access to district resources is only available to USD 204 employees and students who have an active network account. There are three methods of accessing district resources from a computer outside of the district network. Each method is described below and detailed setup instructions are available for download.
VPN Client

After installing the Cisco VPN Client software, you will be able to connect to the USD 204 network through a virtual private network connection.  This will allow you to access network files as if you are on the USD 204 network.  VPN does not give you access to network applications such as Microsoft Office.  In order to use Microsoft Office to edit files stored on the USD 204 network, the applications must be installed on your personal computer.  After establishing the VPN connection, you can then use the applications stored on your personal computer to access files and resources stored on the USD 204 network. The VPN software is compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems.  Detailed instructions can be downloaded below as a .PDF file.

Terminal Services Web Access
TS Web AccessTerminal Services Web Access provides access to the USD 204 network as well as applications.  This is very similar to the Nfuse/Citrix connection that many of you used prior to the 2008-2009 school year.  This remote access method is the only method that can access district network applications.  There is a web interface that provides access to applications such as Microsoft Office.  Once the application is launched, you are running the application from a server on the USD 204 network, therefore, the application can access network files and resources.  This is the best option if you do not have Microsoft Office installed on your personal computer.  TS Web Access is only compatable on Windows XP Service Pack 3 or Windows Vista Service Pack 1.  Detailed intructions for using Terminal Services can be dowloaded below as a .PDF file.

Outlook Web Access
SchoolCenter PictureOutlook Web Access is a web-based method of accessing district E-mail.  E-mail is accessable from any computer with an Internet browser.  OWA can also access district network files if you are using Internet Explorer.  Network files can only be opened or downloaded with this method.  The appropriate application such as Microsoft Office must be installed on your personal computer in order to edit the files that you download from the network using OWA.  You will not be able to upload new files to the USD 204 network using OWA, therefore, if you make changes to a file that you downloaded from the network you will have to use an alternate method in order to re-save the file on the district network.  Detailed instructions for using OWA to access district files can be downloaded below as a .PDF file.
